QR codes (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) are a two-dimensional code that is readable by smart phones and other devices equipped with a camera and a QR reader. QR readers can be downloaded directly to smart phones and many newer phones are shipping with QR readability already installed on the phones. If you use a iPhone, we like SCAN from QR Code City, a free app on the App Store.
When the phone "sees" the code on a Polyshot Hot Runner tag mounted to the side of the hot half, it immediately access the information linked to the QR image. Polyshot systems currently have two QR codes on the tags. One will access the complete wiring information for the Hot Runner System, displaying it as a PDF file on the screen of the phone. The second tag will access the zone locator's information, showing a 3D graphic of the actual mold and which zone controls which cavity.
The use of QR codes by Polyshot will allow the customer to access critical information that would only be available by a printed manual in the past.
Polyshot will be rolling our additional QR code driven features in the future including access to videos showing service tips and spare part access.
Scanning the code at right will show an example of how it is used by Polyshot.
