In Mold Degating System

The customer is Aearo Corporation. The part is a cup used for hearing protection.

This part is molded in a single cavity mold with a Polyshot "In Mold Degating System." This allows the customer to inject using a Polyshot Hot Runner System into a diaphragm gate in the center of the part which then flows into the mold cavity. After filling, the pneumatic degating system actuates causing a moveable core in the "B" half of the mold to move forward forming the finished hole in the molded part. Upon mold opening, the ejector system advances ejecting the part and also the resulting disk from the diaphragm gate. The result is a very clean formed hole in the molded part with no post molding secondary operations.

Previous to using the Polyshot system on this part the parts were loaded onto a milling fixture and the diaphragm gate were milled out one at a time.
